Nila Vidhyanikethan situated close to our premises at Mayannur is an English Medium Lower Primary School and is affiliated to Bharatheeya Vidya Nikethan. It has been recognised by the National Institute of Open Schooling, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India and renders an educational curriculum based on our ancient tradition and at the same time suiting new generation needs and aspirations. The School imparts quality education to children at the Ashram as well as to children in and around Mayannur. This Vidya Nikethan adopts Swami Vivekananda’s message that “the aim of education is to manifest the divinity in the person”.
EFFORTS MADE FOR CHILDREN’S OVERALL DEVELOPMENT
Children placed in an orphanage usually face emotional and behavioural problems, psychiatric disorders, learning disabilities and so on. To effectively address such issues, we arrange group/individual counseling by professionals. In addition, we have classes for tuition, vocational training, Spoken English, dance, vocal music, moral education and self-defense (‘Kalari’ – a form of martial art).
Organic Farming: Aiming to serve pesticide-free vegetables to our children, we have developed an organic vegetable garden in approximately eighty cents of land, availing grant from the Agricultural Department, Govt of Kerala. In this task the officials of Agricultural Department have provided immense support and encouragement to our children, who achieved high yield.
OTHER SEVA EFFORTS BY NILA SEVA SAMITHI
1. Mid-day meal to one and all at Government hospitals at Thiruvilwamala and Pazhayannur.
2. Assistance to students facing financial difficulties for continuing education.
3. Help to needy, i.e., for those who have suffered disasters, high percentage of disability, chronic illnesses
4. Financial assistance for marriage of girls, whose family may be facing severe financial difficulties, social discrimination, etc.
The Samithi is also willing and ready to take on any challenge to serve the society in line with its aims and objectives.
